The American Steam Railroad Preservation Association

Join the American Steam Railroad Preservation Association aboard the Empire State Christmas Limited private rail car trip to New York City! Enjoy a skate in Rockerfeller Center or Central Park, see the world-famous "Radio City Music Hall "Rockettes" Christmas Show, get your Christmas Shopping done at Macy's, Bloomingdales or on 5th Ave, or just relax and enjoy the sights of New York City at Christmastime.

You'll board the Empire State Christmas Limited at Amtrak's Pittsburgh station and be whisked safely across Pennsylvania and New Jersey to New York City aboard the private car "Alexander Hamilton", a former Pennsylvania Railroad Lounge car. The trip will take you across the Alleghaney Mountains and around world-famous Horseshoe Curve before following the Juniata River to Harrisburg, PA. From there, we'll cut across Pennsylvania Dutch country and through Lancaster, PA to Philadelphia. After a short stop at Philadelphia, the tracks turn north through New Jersey and the landscape becomes more populated as we approach New York. After ducking under the Hudson River, we'll arrive in Penn Station in the heart of Manhattan where a bus will be waiting to take you to the 4-star hotel that will be your home base for all that New York has to offer at Christmas.

What would Christmas be without finding that special gift for the one you love? There are so many shops in New York that cater to the Christmas shopper. Bloomingdales, Macy's, and of course the boutique shops along 5th Ave. If you can think of it, you can find it here.

Perhaps you'd rather just take in the sights of Gotham at Christmas or stroll through Central Park. Maybe you want to do some ice skating at Rockerfeller Center, whatever you want to do, it can be found here. Some other interesting sights to see are the Ground Zero Memorial, Grand Central Station, Chinatown, Little Italy, SoHo, and so much more!

Of course, no trip to New York at Christmas would be complete without a trip to Radio City Music Hall for the annual Radio City Rockettes Christmas Show, which we have included in your ticket cost. The world-famous Rockettes will wow and amaze you as you get in to the Christmas spirit in true New York fashion!

The "Alexander Hamilton"

The Alexander Hamilton was built in 1952 as Pennsylvania Railroad observation lounge car #7129. The car served on the PRR’s famous Congressional trains through its transfer to the Penn Central Transportation Company in 1968. In 1971, the car was sold to Amtrak, and was later resold to Southern Pacific as a business car. Arcadia Rail then acquired the car for excursion service. The Morristown & Erie Railway acquired the car in 2004, and it was used in first class service on the Maine Eastern Railroad from 2007 to 2013. The Alexander Hamilton is now owned by the Morristown & Erie Railway.
